HEALTH CARE REFORM SENT TO D.C.

HEALTH CARE REFORM RESOLUTION SENT TO D.C. AS LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGNS CONTINUE

At the November 12 meeting of the Placer County Democratic Central Committee a resolution on Health Care Reform was introduced by Leslye Janusz, Chair of the Auburn Area Democrats. The Auburn Health Care Reform Resolution was sent to our elected officials and expresses the need for a strong public option in any health care reform passed by Congress. It also urges all members of congress to include a strong public option at every step of the legislative process, and further suggests that members of the Democratic Caucus that do not vote for cloture be stripped of any leadership positions. That resolution was made available to the PCDCC and all area clubs as a model for a letter writing campaign. When put to vote the Central Committee adopted said resolution and obtained the signatures of the 20 members present. A copy of the resolution and signature pages were sent to President Obama, Senator Diane Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Harry Reid, Senator Chris Dodd, Senator Joe Lieberman, Representative Nancy Pelosi, Representative John Dingell, Representative Tom McClintock, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and John Burton, Chair of the California Democratic Party. On Satuday, November 29, the Senate voted FOR cloture on their version of the Health Care Reform Bill.  The vote, 60 to 39, was completely along party lines. Even Joe Lieberman voted yea.  The bill now goes to debate on the senate floor.  Did the Auburn Health Care Reform Resolution and the PCDCC Resolution that followed it cause Joe to vote yea.  It's doubtful he saw either.  But unless we voice our opinion our legislators will be listening to the special interests and lobbyists who can line their pockets with campaign funds, not us, the voters who put them into office.  This will be a long arduous process.  Debate will probably go on in the Seanate most of the summer.  They will have to compromise somewhere, But, if you believe a strong public option is necessary for true health care reform, then WRITE, CALL, E-Mail.  Tell them what you think.  The Republicans, with big bucks from special interests are mounting an ugly video campaign aimed at the moderate Democrats that did vote for cloture.  As reported by CNN:  "The 60-second video, which will be e-mailed to more than 5 million people, singles out Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, and Ben Nelson of Nebraska, as well as Reid of Nevada, according to an advance copy of the video provided to CNN."  Write to those Dems and congratulate them for standing up for what's right.  Don't let this opportunity slip away or we won't see Health Care Reform in our life times.
