The Placer County Democratic Party's chartered club formerly known as Rocklin/Roseville Area Democrats has recently affiliated with Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and is now the Progressive Democrats of South Placer (PDSP).

By way of acquainting Northern California with the work of PDA a special first meeting is planned.  See info below.

Future meetings of the Progressive Democrats of South Placer will be held the first Monday of each month 7pm, at the Rocklin Library.

Progressive Democrats of America
Presents
Norman Solomon
"Healthcare, War and the Future of the Democratic Party"

Monday, February 8th
6 - 8 pm

Loomis Veterans Memorial Hall
5945 Horseshoe Bar Road
Loomis CA 95650

What does it mean to be a Progressive in 2010? What does it mean to challenge the warfare state in an election year? With so much on the line for Progressives, knowing how to redefine the terms of the political game becomes paramount as we try to change the ‘facts on the ground.’ Join Norman Solomon and others for a lively discussion about the state and future of the Progressive movement in the Democratic Party.

Norman Solomon is a nationally syndicated columnist on media and politics, and is national co-chair of the Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign, launched by Progressive Democrats of America. He is also co-chair of the Progressive Caucus’ Foreign Policy Committee along with Marcy Winograd, who is challenging Blue Dog Jane Harman for the Congressional seat in the State’s 36th district. His 2005 book "War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death" was also made into a documentary in 2007. You can find out more about Norman here.

Northern California State co-coordinators Rich Hundrieser and Karen Bernal will talk about PDA and why the message the national organization brings has captured the imagination and loyalty of progressive Democrats everywhere. Rich is an elected member of the Democratic Party Central Committee in Sacramento and Karen is chair of the California State Democratic Party’s Progressive Caucus. Karen recently co-authored a resolution along with Norman and Marcy calling for an end to the occupation of Afghanistan:

Mark your calendars and save the date - bring your curiosity, questions, opinions and desire to engage others in stimulating discussion – we promise you a very interesting evening!

Organizing Truth to Power,

Rich Hundrieser
Karen Bernal
Northern California co-coordinators, PDA

Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots PAC that works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice. Our goal in 2010: Expand progressive influence in Congress as we build on our 2008 electoral successes. PDA's advisory board includes seven members of Congress and activist leaders such as Tom Hayden, Medea Benjamin, Thom Hartmann, Jim Hightower, and Lila Garrett.
